Calathea Ornata - Pinstripe
The Calathea Ornata (also called the Calathea Pinstripe or Pinstripe plant) is a beautiful plant with pink stripes on its large green leaves. It's beautiful, but it can be a fussy plant and difficult to care for at times.
Size: Medium Height 55cm Pot Width 18cm
Small Height 25cm Pot width 14cm
Light: This plant likes bright, indirect light. Too much sun, intensified through glass will burn the leaves. Too little light will stunt growth.
Water: Calatheas can be fussy with water so rain water is always best as it lacks the chemicals found in tap water. Rain water also has nutrients not found in tap water. During the warmer spring and summer growing months soil should be kept on the damp side, not soggy as this encourages root rot. Allow to dry out further in the cooler months.
Temperature: This plant will not tolerate fluctuations in temperature or draughts. Keep away from intermittent sources of heat such as radiators and fires.
Humidity: Calatheas are humidity lovers and pinstripe is no exception. Group humidity loving plants together, add a pebble tray or humidifier. On warm days, misting may be beneficial to raise humidity.
Feed: The most fertilising a pink pinstripe calathea needs is weak houseplant food every four weeks. Calatheas generally have few feeding requirements when growing indoors. However, occasionally providing balanced nutrients will keep the green and pink foliage looking healthy and vibrant. Always fertilise damp soil to avoid burning the roots.
Care Tips: Humidity is key with the Calathea family, ends of leaves will brown if the air is too dry. This plant is non-toxic.
Height & Growth rate: Capable of reaching 2 ft tall, this plant will grow much faster in the warmer summer months than the cooler dormant autumn/winter period.
Origin: South America.
