Ficus Lyrata - Fiddle leaf fig
The common name coming from the fiddle shaped glossy leaves, this popular houseplant packs a punch with just how big those leaves can get. It will give a tropical feel to any room, combined with this plants ability to purify air make it a very popular houseplant.
Size: Nursery pot 17cm wide Plant height 70cm
Light: Preferring bright, indirect light this plant will tolerate some shade, early morning or late afternoon weaker sun are fine but not direct midday, strong sunlight.
Water: When the top layer of soil is dry it's time to water your fiddle leaf be careful as this plant can be easily over watered and this will cause the leaves to brown and drop. Water less in the winter and always feel the soil first.
Temperature: Ideally kept at room temperature, avoid draughts and intermittent heat sources such as radiators or fires.
Humidity: Unusually for a tropical species humidity isn't needed for healthy growth.
Feed: Apply a diluted fertiliser once or twice a month in the warmer spring and summer months. Do not feed during the autumn and winter.
Care tips: Keep the leaves dust free and take care after pruning. The sap produced by this plant contains latex and is classed as toxic. Be especially cautions if you have a latex allergy. Keep away from pets and children.
Height & Growth rate: Ultimately this plant can reach up to 9ft but it's very slow growing.
