- Description
Rhipsalis Puniceodiscus commonly known as the Mistletoe cactus is a wonderful tropical chain cactus similar in looks to samphire, with thin, spiky, pencil-like stems, small yellow-white flowers, and white globular fruit. Very much on-trend and great for hanging baskets!
Although Rhipsalis is a cactus, don’t think dry, arid landscapes. These are jungle cactus, native to the hot, steamy rainforests of Central and South America. They need warmth and high humidity.
Size:
Large: Height - 20+cm, Length 30+cm
Rhipsalis Puniceodiscus Care:
Light: Bright filtered or dappled light. A few hours of the morning or early evening sunlight a day would not go amiss. Avoid harsh midday and afternoon sun.
Water: Keep the soil moist at all times. Rhipsalis is not drought tolerant. Water once the top of the soil has become slightly dry. Ensure adequate drainage.
Temperature: Warm room temperatures of 20-24°C are perfect, with a night time minimum of 16°C.
Humidity: High humidity is required. Mist, sit in a pebble tray, or surround with water. Ideal for kitchens and bathrooms.
Feed: A very weak solution of cactus feed once or twice a year in the growing season should be sufficient.
Height and Growth Rate: Rhipsalis Puniceodiscus can achieve heights of 1m, although the stems are fragile so may break off before this point. Average to fast growth.
Origin: Central and South America.
